Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome

April 27th So exciting to see report on Hypnosis for treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome on 7.30 report!

Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Hypnosis was explored on the 7.30 report with Leigh Sales recently. A featured a story on the effectiveness of using gut directed hypnotherapy to reduce and manage Irritable Bowel Syndrome was presented. It featured a woman who was unable to take her dogs to the park daily without constantly having to avail herself of the restrooms. She had heard about hypnotherapy for treating IBS and subsequently had 5 sessions of hypnosis using gut directed hypnotherapy. She reported an 80 percent reduction in her symptoms. She could now go to the park with her dogs and not rush off to the toilets every 5 minutes.

The report went on to say that Monash University had conducted a study on patients who suffered IBS and treated them with the low FOD map diet and with hypnosis and found both pretty much equally effective. Hypnotherapy was shown to be more beneficial from a psychological perspective, reducing the levels of anxiety and depression experienced by participants, she said, noting that overall patients were not clinically depressed or anxious at enrolment. Hypnosis was a better option for those who found it hard to stick to the diet.

It is wonderful to see hypnosis being recognised as an effective therapy by the medical profession and in the mainstream media. It shows how powerful our minds can be to effect positive change at a mental and physical level. I say it all the time – hypnosis is drug free and soooo relaxing….
